Thursday, January 11th

Hey everyone. Hope you are all having a lovely week. It is so damn cold, what the hell? Isn't this supposed to be California?

7pm: To start off, the guys play a woman in San Mateo has been getting messages from God. What is she doing with these, putting them on the roof on her home in five foot letters, of course. The city and her neighbors have been asking her to stop. So, if you are down in San Mateo, please check this out and give us a call. It is a yellow house on Cottage Grove Avenue.

These messages involve cloning, the mafia, the Constitution, Hitler, Watergate, Fidel Castro, President Bush and others. The city of San Mateo put a letter on her door, telling her that her signs are a violation of zoning laws. She has a hearing on the 17th with the Community Improvement Committee. She could be fined up to 10,000 dollars and lose her home.

Chris from Redwood City has a sister-in-law who lives in that neighborhood. He saw it around Christmas time. She had all kinds of Christmas decorations, and had religious stuff written all over the place.

SFPD is in trouble because of their treatment by the Yale University Choir. They were at a New Years Party, when some prep school boys crashed the party and tried to start a fight. They apparently were beat up pretty badly. The issue with the police, is that the Sacred Heart kids were not arrested and let go after breaking things up. It seems like this was blown out of proportion. It is unfortunate that these kids got hurt, but fights happen.

Nate from Oakland says that he thinks the issue is the superiority complex of people from the East Coast. I am little offended by this, I'm from Maryland. It is not that I am stuck up, it's just that people from the East Coast are just better :)

The guys ask a two part question. What is the thing in the Bay Area that makes you think you will never leave? and What is the thing in the Bay Area that makes you want to leave? You can only answer, if you answer both questions.

Brad says that he loves living by the ocean, he has always wanted this. The thing he doesn't like, is that it is so crowded in the area. He thinks we need a little regional cleansing, maybe a nice little outbreak.

For Chris, he is having trouble pinning this down. The thing he loves is the food, knowing that he can have anything he wants. He also loves the intellect of the population. He hates how poorly the roads are maintained.

8pm: We get to the callers about what they love and hate about the Bay Area. The call board lit up pretty quickly on this topic.

Things People Love:
- That it is Home
- The City Scape
- The Geography
- That Everything is So Close By
- Watching the Waves
- The Surfing
- The Smart Women
- High Income

Things People Hate:
- Real Estate prices
- Dating Scene
- The Women
- The Drivers
- Aggressive Homeless Addicts
- The Cold Water
- Rich Engineers
- Coldness of People
- Traffic - this is the most common negative answer

What I love is that there is so much to do here that is free. There are always festivals, concerts, and the parks are fantastic. What I hate is the homeless problem and the hills.

We go off topic during this discussion. Artie in San Francisco is going through a pretty rough time. He has an ex girlfriend that he loves very much, but she has a severe drug problem. Right now, he is on his way to her parents' house, to tell them about her addiction and that he thinks she needs to be in rehab. That is a tough situation.

9pm: We take the beginning of the hour to wrap up the love/hate relationship you have with the Bay Area. The first call of the hour, Robin in Pleasanton, gets thrown right into the Pit. Fantastic.

New answers for this hour include not leaving because of the great restaurants and the cannibis clubs. New negatives include parking. Yeah, parking here blows.

Ok, so now it is time for Listener Highlights. We have not done this in quite a while. Tonight, the topic is insects. Last night, I was telling them about when I walked into the laundry room as a child, I discovered it was covered with ants. Brad brings this story up, and thinks of when he first saw mosquito hawks. You see them as a child, and you think that there are evil creatures of death, instead of the mosquito killers they are.

They also bring up this topic, because Brad is deathly afraid of wasps. One time, Brad came down to Chris' ranch, and was accosted by some monstrous wasps, to Chris' great amusement. Poor Brad, he seems really traumatized.

James in American Canyon tells a story about his little brother, who is also afraid of wasps. The kid saw one while he was in the pool, ducked under the water to get away, and almost drowned. His throat closed up, and ruptured the blood vessels in his lungs.

Chris tells a story from when he was only a year old. He is with his grandmother in Minnesota and they wanted to take a picture of him in the apple tree. They put him up on a branch, and unknowingly, unto a nest of wasps. He got over 100 stings on his head at only one year old.

The calls really go crazy on this topic. Everyone has their stories about gross bugs.

Dave from San Jose tells us about how when riding his motorcycle, a wasp flew down his shirt. He was unable to kill it, and it ended up stinging him five times on the stomach before he finally got rid of it. Ugh.

Benito in San Rafael has a story about when he tried to set his friend up on a blind date. The friend was outside, while Benito went in to talk to the girl. They are looking out the window, and see his friend waving his hands around like a crazy person. What Benito and the girl don't see, is the swarm of gnats around his head.

One caller, I forget his name, calls with my ultimate nightmare. He was a kid and tried to smash a spider with his foot. What he did not realize, is that the spider was pregnant. This results in hundreds of baby spiders crawling up his legs. Holy crap. I think I would pass out.

10pm: We continue with the scary bug stories. I am going to have some nasty nightmares tonight.

Rob in the city calls about a story when he was at UC-Santa Cruz. He went into the study center, and saw a tarantula on the floor. He thought it was fake, and nudges it with his foot. The fangs immediately expose. He actually did not kill it, and carried it out to the woods, to let it free. I don't think I could do that.

Eric in Santa Clara also calls with a terrifying spider story. I don't know if I can handle much more of this. In his sleep, he was bitten by a poisonous spider. He woke up with a nasty bite on his arm, that kept growing throughout the day. Finally, he had to go to the hospital where they had to give him a shot in the ass with an enormous needle.
We hear a couple stories about camel spiders. One guy says that when he was in Kuwait, a guy was attacked by a camel spider in his sleep. It crawled on his face, and was eating his face, while he was sleeping. It ate half of his face. I think I'm going to throw up.
The last call of the night is from Scott in Livermore. He was working for a carpet cleaning company, and went to a house that had a really bumpy carpet. He came in to wash the carpets, and saw small white specks throughout. To his utter horror, he realized that these are in fact, maggots. My God!! I am so glad this is over.
Brad wanted to tell us about the tarantula wasp. However, the calls were so full, that we just did not have time. Hopefully, he will be able to tell us about this tomorrow.
